Are You a Part-Timer? You Might Qualify for Unemployment Benefits
Many workers today juggle part-time jobs, often due to a lack of full-time opportunities. If you’re in this situation, you might not realize that you could be eligible for unemployment benefits to help supplement your income while you search for full-time work.
A Real-Life Example
Recently, I spoke with a part-time worker who was getting 24 hours a week. He had no idea that, in Connecticut, anything under 32 hours per week is considered part-time—and that he could qualify for unemployment benefits to supplement his wages.
Here’s why he was eligible:
✅ He had been working at his job for over a year, meaning his wages counted toward unemployment eligibility.
✅ He was actively searching for full-time work.
✅ He was earning less than the UI maximum.
What Does This Mean for You?
If you're a part-time worker, you may be eligible for partial unemployment benefits in Connecticut.
Reporting Part-Time Earnings
If you work part-time while receiving unemployment, you must report your gross earnings each week. However, you may still receive partial benefits to help bridge the gap.
